I started a neighborhood cigar society and I wanted a travel case for the outings that are hosted by friends at their homes. I found a few options at roughly half the price of the San Antonio but something pulled me toward this product. Maybe it’s because I was born in San Antonio, TX (which is not the origin story of this brand). It arrived in one day and I fully agree with other reviewers who mention the satisfying unboxing experience. It comes in a heavy black embossed box (which I am keeping for use as a memento box) and a soft flannel pouch.Pros:* The fit and finish are top notch. While it is not genuine leather, the padded material used is high quality with a very nice hand feel. The stitching is uniform and gives a good contrast to the saddle color. The metal zipper is smooth and does not bind when going around the corners. Right out of the box the case does not open 180º as advertised but that may change as the case gets more use. It closes with a satisfying sound and a feel that suggests heft and tight alignment.* On the cedar tray side, a leather velcro’d strap secures your cigars. I prefer a 5” robusto size so there is an additional 2” of length remaining in each sleeve for longer cigars. In addition to the strap there is a 1” “footer” at the bottom of the tray to secure the bottom of the cigar.* On the tool side, twin foldover covers secure your lighter and cutter. The included butane torch lighter has a slim Zippo form factor and is finished in an attractive and masculine black enamel and SA logo. The cutter appears to be quality steel. I will be replacing it with a Dupont cutter my kids gave me for a recent birthday. It’s a tight fit but it works.* The case, when closed, is not exactly trim. It is almost a handful. This is either a pro or a con depending on the size of your hand. It definitely will make a statement when I put it on the table and get down to business.* I’m not a fan of over-branded products, so fortunately the SA logo is attractive and understated on the front cover and inside panel of this case.Cons:* The pouches for lighter and cutter are rather tight. Granted I’m reviewing this product when it is brand new and things will probably loosen up over time. But when new, removing tools from these pouches is a two-handed operation. There is a bit of open space just above these pouches which might have provided more room for supplies. However it holds a perforated sleeve for inserting a Boveda humidification pack. Minor tradeoff.* Size. As mentioned above, this could be a pro or a con. When closed, the case a full 3.25” thick. This case is large enough that a carrying leash would have made sense. The design precludes placing a handle on the spine because that would prevent 180º lay-flat opening which is actually a feature.* Lighter. While attractive and functional, the included lighter is pretty much your only option for the smallish and tight storage pouch. If you use any type of round or fatter lighter you’ll have to bring it separately.Overall impressions:This is a quality accessory for those who value style points when it’s time to light up. I’m sure I will get compliments on it as my buddies are pulling Ziplock baggies out of their pockets. It has a few very minor tradeoffs in terms of bulk and limited lighter/cutter options due to space restrictions. But nothing that will prevent you from enjoying the experience of using it at your next outing. It definitely brings a more serious, elevated vibe. It feels like a good value at this price point. I’m rather picky and I am happy with this purchase.
